Kristin Scott Thomas received damehood at Buckingham Palace on Thursday. Dame Thomas is set to take over the role of Queen Elizabeth in the production The Audience from Dame Helen Mirren in April. The Queen warned her that it will be a “challenge” to play her.

The Queen and Prince Philip hosted the 50th Winston Churchill Memorial Trust reception at Buckingham Palace tonight. Per an article in the Telegraph, the trust was “set up in 1965 as Sir Winston Churchill’s living legacy to help give people the opportunity to travel overseas to study areas of topical and personal interests”. Her Majesty kept busy today with the naming of a new cruise ship – the Britannia. This is the fifth official naming of a cruise ship done by Queen Elizabeth.

According to the Times of Malta, Queen Elizabeth along with Prince Philip, Prince Charles, and the Duchess of Cornwall will head to Malta in November for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM). CHOGM will be held November 27-29. This will surely be a special visit for Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip as this is the country that they called home early on in their marriage from 1949-1951.
The Queen hosted her annual pre-Christmas lunch at Buckingham Palace today. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were in attendance with conflicting reports as to whether or not Prince George joined the festivities. The most notable absence from the gathering was Prince Harry who is on his way back to the UK after his South Pole trek.
