Prince George’s Christening Details Revealed!

Prince George will be christened on October 23 at 3pm in the Chapel Royal at St. James’s Palace, Kensington Palace confirmed today. The Archbishop of Canterbury will perform the baptism, which is expected to last about 45 minutes. The future heir to the throne will be dressed in a replica of the lace and satin christening gown made for Queen Victoria’s eldest daughter, Victoria, in 1841. The Earl and Countess of Wessex’s son Viscount Severn became the first royal baby to wear the new robe at his christening in 2008.

Neither the guest list nor the names of the six godparents were released. Reports have been swirling about who these yet to be named godparents are – Prince Harry, Pippa Middleton, Fergus Boyd, and Emilia d’Erlanger are all names that have been mentioned.

Official photos will be taken after the ceremony. A picture of the Queen and all three future monarchs – Prince Charles, Prince William, and Prince George – will be released. According to the BBC, the last time this happened was at the christening of the future Edward VIII in 1894 showed the royal baby with his father, George V; grandfather, Edward VII; and great-grandmother, Queen Victoria.

New Family Photos: The Cambridges

Breaking with tradition, Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge opted to have their first family portraits taken by a family member and not an official photographer.  The Duchess’ father, Michael Middleton, took the photos in early August at the Middleton family home in Bucklebury. Even their dog, Lupo, and the Middletons’ retriever, Tilly, joined in on the fun!

The release of the new family photos coincides with Prince William’s first full interview since becoming a father.  He sat down with CNN’s Mark Foster to discuss fatherhood and his future in an interview that will air in the US on September 15th. Here is an excerpt from an article promoting the interview on CNN.com:

“For me, Catherine and now little George are my priorities — and Lupo,” the prince said with a smile. Thankfully Lupo, the couple’s Cocker Spaniel, seems to be on board with the new addition to the family.

“He’s coping all right, actually. As a lot of people know who have got dogs and bringing a newborn back, they take a little bit of time to adapt, but he’s been all right so far. He’s been slobbering around the house a bit, so he’s perfectly happy.”

PW and DC_Post PG UNUSED

A palace told PEOPLE that Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge may release family photos of Prince George instead of unveiling a professional portrait. These personal family shots may be released as early as this week. More formal photos are expected to be taken around the time of Prince George’s christening this fall.

The Duchess and Prince George have remained at the Middleton family home while Prince William returned to work back in Wales this past week.

Vanity Fair’s International Best-Dressed List

The Duchess of Cambridge landed atop Vanity Fair’s 2013 International Best-Dressed List for the fourth year in a row, sharing honors with Scandal‘s Kerry Washington. “The Kate Effect” remains in full swing as proven by this honor and the fact that anything she wears continues to sell out in 24 hours (or less!). The Duchess’ top labels are Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen, Issa, Jenny Packham, and Alice Temperley.

This Day in History: July 31, 2012

A year ago today, Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge attended the London 2012 Summer Olympics to support Zara Phillips and the rest of the British equestrian team in their bid for a team medal. Team Great Britain won the silver medal at the end of a grueling three-day competition.

HRH Prince George of Cambridge

The media frenzy continued today when the name of the new member of the royal family was announced – Prince George Alexander Louis. As NPR notes in this article, the naming was announced quickly when compared to others; Prince Charles’ name wasn’t known for approximately a month and it took Princess Diana and Prince Charles one week to announce Prince William’s name. There are rumors from various outlets that the delay in naming Prince William was because Princess Diana and Prince Charles were at odds regarding a name for their first born; she wanted William and he wanted Arthur (which was to become Prince William’s second name).

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were spotted out with their son this afternoon, presumably heading to her parents’ house in Bucklebury, Berkshire (MailOnline).
